The Red Triangle Factory complex is a huge industrial zone in Saint Petersburg, Russia. It’s history starts in the year 1860 when it became one of the first rubber factories in the country. Today the enormous property is a mix of small companies, garages, and rehearsal spaces for musicians. But mostly it is a decaying wasteland, a monument to the old industrialization of the city.

Sometimes I stumble across the most fantastic relics! I couldn’t believe it when I found this old abacus, leaning against the wall like it was the most normal object in the world. I suppose when the factory was operational abacuses were commonplace. It’s amazing how an object once so mundane can become an object of total fascination.
