Art Spotlight: Hallelujah

The Artist Project is around the corner and I’m so excited to be showing my large-scale paintings! This will be the first time many of them will be available for public viewing, and certainly the first time they will be exhibited in a mainstream art space. The pandemic sucked for art exhibitions and fairs but at least our anticipation is through the roof! I certainly won’t take these events for granted ever again.

This piece is Hallelujah and it’s painted directly on a large Tim Hortons advertisement. My addition is a very accurate representation of the classic ‘Pietà’ scene which depicts the Virgin Mary cradling the dead body of Jesus after he was removed from the cross. Is it a tad sacrilegious? Perhaps. But I’m not the one who chose to use this expression of worship to advertise breakfast sandwiches! This is on you, Tim Hortons.

I don’t know if Hallelujah will make the final cut for the Artist Project. Unlike most of my large ad paintings, this one has already graced the public with its holy presence. It was front and center in my New Year, New You window exhibition on Queen West back in January. And I have so many more of these that the world deserves to see.

Should it make the final cut? Let me know in the comments!

The Artist Project is always a fun show. There’s tons of art to see and you get to meet many of the participating artists. This year is going to be even more exciting because for many of us it’s our first art fair in over 2 years! Unfortunately it does have an admission cost. Fortunately they usually give participating artists a handful of tickets to give away. If you’d like one fill out the contact form with the message, “I read all the way to the end of your blog post!”.
